Contact Category is a customer dimension (a categorization of contacts that can be defined by customers, if so desired) that could affect the number of communications each different type of Contact Category can receive.
For example, I want to set rules for each Engagement Level (High Engagement, Medium Engagement, Low Engagement), so loyal customers receive more emails than dormant ones. So contacts will be classified as either loyal or dormant customers.
Ensure that you have a Data Extension containing all your contacts with a Contact Category field identifying the category of each contact. In case you do not have a DE that has this, check this article about Creation of a Contact Categories Data Extension.
Contact Categories can be created by an Administrator.
How do you import Contact Categories?
- Go to Admin Panel > Contact Categories
- Select the Data Extension (DE) which contains this information along with the Contact Key and the Contact Category field
- Click on the Refresh Data button
After retrieving the Contact Categories, a graph will show the distribution of the number of contacts per category.
Note: This step is optional ie. only needed if you decide to categorize your contacts for communication purposes.
