How to Use DEs Generated in DESelect Segment as an Entry Source in Journey Builder?

When working in Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC), DESelect Segment allows you to create targeted and precise audience segments without writing SQL queries. Once your segmentation is done, you may want to push these targeted audiences directly into a Journey Builder journey. This guide will walk you through how to use Data Extensions (DEs) generated in DESelect Segment as an Entry Source in Journey Builder.

Create Your Target Audience in DESelect Segment

1. Create a new Selection:

   • Give it a clear name that describes the purpose of the audience (e.g., Spring_Campaign_Audience).

   • Apply your filters and segmentation logic to define the target group.

2. Select your output DE or Target Data Extension:

   • Choose an existing DE or create a new one.

   • Ensure the DE is sendable.

   

   • Map with required fields (e.g., SubscriberKey, EmailAddress). Note that DESelect Administrators can set default Send Relationship from the Admin Panel ensuring that this field will be automatically populated in future.

   

3. Save and Run the Selection.

4. Once run, your DE will be populated with the targeted records.

Set Up Your Journey in Journey Builder

1. Create a New Journey or open an existing one you want to connect to your DE.

2. Choose Entry Source: Data Extension.

   • In the Entry Source Configuration, select Data Extension Entry and browse and locate the DE generated by DESelect Segment.
