_Subscribers Data View is a data view that keeps the updated status of each customer in your Salesforce Marketing Cloud environment.
You will find four different statuses: active, bounced, held, and unsubscribed.
Managing subscriber status depends on your SFMC configuration. There are two possible setups:
-
Enterprise 1.0:
-
The unsubscribe action is configured at the enterprise level, unsubscribing from one BU would apply across all BUs.
This setup treats the subscriber's status as global, meaning that once they unsubscribe from receiving communications in one BU, they will not receive communications from any other BU within the same SFMC account.
-
The unsubscribe action is configured at the enterprise level, unsubscribing from one BU would apply across all BUs.
-
Enterprise 2.0:
-
Each BU is configured to manage its own subscribers independently, an unsubscribe action in one BU would not automatically affect the subscriber's status in other BUs.
In this case, the unsubscription is localized to the specific BU where the action was taken.

Why is the _Subscriber Data View not Showing Results
If the _Subscriber Data View is not showing results, it is likely because your organization operates within an Enterprise 2.0 configuration.
In this case, each Business Unit (BU) maintains its distinct _Subscriber list.
